So for example, there's that old newspaper clipping that's gained some notoriety on the internet. Granted that's a less well known example but there's been a few wide-spread misconceptions like panic over the 'emo cult,' or songs attributed to the wrong people, famous misattributed quotations, etc...
Yes, time travel is legitimate in the TTL. Considering we have human cloning in 1976, cryogenics in 1979, and cold fusion in 1990, consider that some technologies are upgraded.

Hold on Walt Disney offered 45% of his estate to the first guy who gave birth? That guy is weirder than I thought.
Well it has variety, that's for sure. The flow-on effects of these fads continuing until the present day are going to be interesting. Not to mention that the rules of reality have been changed.
Overall I wouldn't want to live in this universe. It seems worse than OTL, mainly due to censorship, crime and climate change hysteria. It's definitely a more interesting world, though.
I have a suggestion, which is that the Arab Spring inspired some movements in other regions, but they didn't go anywhere. The "Jasmine Revolution" in China is one example, although the PRC has already disappeared in the 70s in TTL so I'm not sure how that would fit in. Note that the PRC seems to re-appear in 1988, might want to look into that.
About 2011, according to Wikipedia, 2 million new cases of skin cancer is lower than OTL, unless that was deliberate. Might want to make it clearer whether it's supposed to be lower or higher than OTL.
