If Clinton Loses in 1992, Who Do the Democrats Nominate in 1996?

Yeah, and I figure the GOP won’t really gain seats, especially since they’ve been there for so long

They would most likely lose seats in 1994 and lose more in 1996. It won't be until 1998 that the GOP can hope to gain seats again. Even then their gains won't be massive unless the Democratic President screws up big time.

North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt. IOTL, the timing was never quite right for him to run. In a timeline where Clinton loses in '92, he's in great shape for '96.

two scenarios

1) they nominate some neoliberal and he loses in '96, meaning we have 4 years of POTUS Quayle or Dole and a social democratic/populist repudiation of neoliberalism in 2000.

2) they nominate someone not neoliberal like brown/cuomo and they win, leading to a US less liberal than in the first scenario

We all know who should run:

I'd imagine they'd double down on Moderates, simply because by 1996 it'd be obvious Reagan had moved the country too far to the Right.
