If China is kept out of W.T.O in 2001?

What happens if the Chinese are kept out in 2001. Their accession was problematic and had many opponents, ostensibly on "human rights" issues, but we know truly since China was already in 2001 a USD 5 Trillion economy and therefore too big to mess with.

If the US had managed to get its way, how would it have affected the economic path of the last decade and a half? In 2001 most World trade by volume and value was between Western countries. Today, inter-Western bloc trade is at three following Internal Asian trade, Asian-Euro/N American tade and might soon fall further behind.

Trade has a small impact on national economies. What matters far more is internal commerce. China's economy still probably would've boomed without joining the WTO.

Yeah, thats a weird position to take. Internal commerce is highly dependant on foreign commerce as well. That small chain of alternative coffee shops you love only present in a few states in your own country, has coffee from Brazil, ceramic mugs from Pakistan, Coffee machine from China and clothes made in Mauritius.
