If 9/11 or something similar didn't happen, who would run for the Democratic nomination in 2004?

Let's say Bin Laden decides to go into his family's business and as a result isn't radicalized. Who would run for the Democratic nomination in 2004?

Howard Dean definitely will. There's a good chance Paul Wellstone would take a crack at it if his death is butterflied away. Perhaps a few southern Democrats could join the fray (Mary Landrieu, John Edwards, Bob Graham, Jay Rockefeller).

All the OTL candidates plus Paul Wellstone if his death is butterflied, Biden is a possibility, hell Gore could go for a rematch if things go bad enough politically for Bush without 9/11.

There was speculation Gary Hart might run, even though he had been out office for seventeen years. Bill Bradley could also run again. Maybe Tom Daschle doesn't run for re-election in the United States Senate Election of 2004, and instead runs for President.

Probably a similar field to OTL. Most were running because the door was open and they wanted the job.

Without Iraq as the elephant in the room, the primary results can change. Domestic issues are at the forefront so Gephardt, Dean, and Edwards are stronger. Kerry won in part because Democrats wanted to relitigate the National Guard issue, and that would have been less salient in peacetime. (I'm assuming no Iraq 2 Electric Boogaloo with no Afghanistan, which isn't guaranteed.)
