Idi Amin invades Kenya

My gut says Kenya stomps about as hard as Tanzania did OTL. As the Kenyans were opposed to socialism they probably don't put Obote back in place, so the Ugandan Bush War is likely avoided and Uganda's Kingdoms are likely restored far sooner.

Yeah, and if Amin is taken out by a western ally, rather than a quasi-Fabian third-worldist, there might be a little more lionization of the invasion in the US and the UK. OTL, I'm sure the west was happy to see an anti-Israel, terrorist-hugger taken out by anyone who was up to it, but I'd imagine they weren't all that crazy about it being Nyerere in particular. If it's Moi stepping up to the plate, he might get himself a few more complimentary mentions among speechmakers in DC and London.

What kind of assistance will Amin need to fight Kenya ?
Will any of the Arab or Muslim states be willing to provide it ?

IOTL, Idi Amin had support from 3,000 Libyan troops and a few hundred Palestinian fighters during his war against Tanzania, but it wasn't nearly enough to keep Uganda from getting stomped. Not sure about the exact level of support, but he'd need significantly more to have any hope of beating Kenya.

Odagen war was from 1977 to 1978. this war would be in 1976.

Whoops my mistake probably still makes one question why Barre would want to invade a stable Western-backed state when there is an unstable Ethiopia that looks increasingly weak

Ethiopia will still be in chaos later, So Kenya makes sense for the time being.

and Kenya isn't if they see the Somalis mobilizing to their north they will redirect forces to counter them. Kenya is far more stable then Ethiopia with a decent army and Western Support. Invading Kenya is a bad idea

Still facing a two front war

So? The British will almost certainly support the Kenyans and the Ugandan offensive is probably going to end in complete stalling by the time the Somalis can actually mobilize the Kenyans would have noticed they would reinforced the border and the Ugandans are probably collapsing

Not to mention a couple airstrikes. Probably B-52Ds or Vulcans out of Diego Garcia.

There was TV-documentaries during the day and age with Dada showing off his invasion force; couple of Shermans and fighters looking worse than what you'd expect in Somalia or West Africa of today! He might have had a few T-34/55 in addition - can't remember or easily find if that being so.
BTW is this before or post Entebbe - rather crucial to Dada having airsupport or not!

The British have since 1964 had troops on exercise in Kenya twice a year - so the Kenyans may have some serious backing in place and possibly the Israelis on call too!

There was unrest in the Kenyan provinces bordering Somalia due to somalians in Kenya wanting to have thes areas join Somalia.
