Idea I need help with inspired by Birttania's Fist and Ranobow of Blood

Wether I ever have the time to do this is questionable with HS, Soccer and Church plus homework. Anyways I had an idea for a TL. The POD is an Oregon war with somehow or another the line being drawn at the 51st parrael (maybe I could call it 51st Aftermath). Then unless Butterflies force it sooner I would have the ACW start at the same time though the USA would probably be a bit more militarized.

I was thinking GB could get involved after Gettysburg maybe using the rams like Peter Tsouras or something else. Following BF/RoB closely I would have it become a world war with US/Russia/Prussia uniting Germany and Italy vs A-H/France/Ottomans/GB.
THe US would eventually have a Status Quo Ante Bellum with the UK and the CSA would be reabsorbed. I have an idea for Southern sympathizers trying to assinate Lincoln only for it to go badly wrong and them get massacred. I was thinking of throwing Wilkes Booth in there.
A big point would be that the Union would be to tired at this point to try to force France to leave Mexico. So you got a Maximillian Mexico for awhile at least.
I also wanted to by the time WWI (WWII ITTL) have Russia somehow get on GB/France side. Perhaps Russia gets so bloodied there is a revoloution? Also the Spanish-American war would still go ahead but the UK would demand America's withdrawl. With the US' refusal they launch a suprise attack. (Anyone want to see Teddy Roosevelt storming Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island:D)

WWI(I) might start at a different time depending on Butterflies. But if I cold realisticly looking like this I would be happy.

Entente
United Kingdom
France
Spain (due to SAW)
Russia
Austria Hungary

Later on
Mexico

Portland Alliance
United States of America
Germany
Italy
Sweeden

Is this idea okay?

I assume like in BF the US committed a wanton act of aggression against a neutral?

Realistically, an Anglo-French alliance would smash the Union in six weeks. Spain and Sardinia are pals with the French. There is no Germany, but rather a lose confederation of states led by Austria (not Austria-Hungry). Sweden and Denmark are pals with Britain (and Denmark recently almost had a war with the US). Russia is in the midst of a major uprising in Poland which requried nearly the entire Russian army a year to put down.

I'm a little confused, but can help

Regarding France and Mexico, the Union winning the war was not good for them in more ways than one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benito_Juárez#Political_career

With its own civil war over, President Andrew Johnson invoked the Monroe Doctrine to give diplomatic recognition to Juárez' government and supply weapons and funding to the Republican forces. When he could get no support in Congress, he supposedly had the Army "lose" some supplies (including rifles) "near" (across) the border with Mexico. He would not even meet with representatives of Maximilian. Gen. Philip Sheridan wrote in his journal about how he "misplaced" 30,000 muskets close to Mexico.

There's a lot more, but my memory is shot and I can't spend my time searching right now.

You also jump rather a lot, from the 1860s to the 1890s to the 1910s. I think you rather need to fill in the bits in between

Germany and Italy are going to get butchered in a WW1 against the UK, France, Russia, Austro-Hungary and Spain. AH was a wet sock yes, but the sheer size of the border they have with Germany is going to make it impossible for Germany to hold off - the reason they managed for so long in WW1 was because the border with France and the border with Russia were of a manageable size. You've in fact now got Germany having to defend itself against enemies across every border they have except the tiny Danish border to the north, and the Swiss border to the south. That's just stretching their army to breaking point, especially in the era before lightning war where they can't knock a combatant out of the war early (although Vienna is pretty close to their border) and will instead have to hunker down for perpetual trench warfare. It's almost at the point where you would suggest that a WW1 wouldn't happen, simply because Germany would never be so stupid as to get dragged into one.

Also, you say that "I also wanted to by the time WWI (WWII ITTL) have Russia somehow get on GB/France side." You realise that's how the First World War happened, don't you? The UK and France signed the Entente Cordiale in 1904, then Russia signed an alliance with France a few years later, and the UK completed the triangle by extending the Entente to Russia themselves just before the outbreak of war. If Germany is a potential antagonist for both countries (France and Russia), they have all the reason they need to sign an alliance.

As was pointed out to me recently, the US had very little to do with the French withdrawal. Whilst the US supplied some weapons to the Republicans, their army on the border rapidly melted to nothing whilst the French ignored them. By the time the French decided to leave there was no US threat from the north, it had evaporated.

The impetus to leave seems to have been entirely from French internal politics. The French blythly ignored the US ultimatum, exposing it as a bluff, and withdrew almost a year later.

Oh well, so everything I know from previous reading is a load of crap, whatever. I'm thinking history doesn't make sense anymore anyway, nothing's ever what it was when you learnt it, and everything is now inevitable.
