Basically I read something that Meadow wrote a while back about wanting to see a timeline where World War II is fought against a communist Germany and is followed by a Cold War against a fascist Russia.

I was just wondering what everyone thinks of this timeline that I've sketched out so far:

PoD: The Russian provisional government decides to sue for peace with Germany soon after taking office.

  • As a result, Germany is able to begin moving troops to the western front much earlier than in OTL.
  • This results in a bloodier end to the First World War as the Allies fight their way into Germany in early 1919.
  • The war ends de facto in May 1919 when Germany experiences a massive uprising by revolutionary groups within the country. The Kaiser is captured and later executed by the rebels. A civil war breaks out in Germany between the communists and a coalition of reactionary militias [such as the Freikorps] and the remnants of the old regime. The Allies send aid to the White Germans but a combination of division within the white forces and lack of enthausiasm for the conflict in Britain and France leads to the Reds winning by the end of 1922. [In other words, Germany suffers a civil war similar to the Russian Civil War]. The Allied armies dig in on the Rhine and the French establish a puppet state.
  • At the same time, a series of blunders by the provisional government leads to a military coup led by Kornilov. I'm uncertain what Kornilov would do in these circumstances, I imagine we would do one of three things; establish a simple dictatorship with him at its head, restore the tsar to the throne as a puppet, or make somebody else the tsar [somebody who is easy to control]. During the chaos that follows the fall of Germany, Russia regains control of the western Ukraine but is defeated by the Lithuanians and Poles. The increasingly fascistic Russian government begins to industrialize Russia in the mid-to-late 1920s, using tactics which are just as brutal as Stalin.
This takes the timeline up to 1922. Does this sound like a good idea or does this need more work?
