IBM Found to Sell to Nazis

In the eyes of the US legal system, if the sales were concluded prior to 9 Dec 1941, IBM would have done nothing illegal. The Nazis and the US were not at war and not enemies until a few days after the start of the Pacific War.

Hell, British companies sold products to Germany right up until the British declaration of war in 1939. Ditto for the French. Hell, even the Soviets were in on it until the Nazis invaded them.

So long as they didn't continue to sell products during the war itself, nobody is going to care.

Now if it were to come out that an American corporation had managed to sell sensitive equipment to the Nazis while the US was fighting them, then there would have been hell to pay. But those would be the only grounds for such action.

Legally, this is obvious, especially now I realize. I'm wondering a lot more about if the public cares enough to produce any butterflies.
