I want to write a story . . .

Based on my most recent map.

For the timeline itself, I was thinking that the PoD is something like Texas gains independence through more peaceful means and stays that way. Then comes the Civil War, in which everyone gangs up on the US except for Mexico and a few other countries; Britain officially joins in and takes the disputed northern territories for Canada.

Got any ideas for this? Thoughts?

Well, I didn't want to criticize your awesomely awesome map, but your Canadian borders are all OTL. :mad:

I realized that later . . . maybe I'll go back and change it, but I originally chalked it up to nothing much different happening than OTL in Canada up until a certain point. But then again, the butterflies . . .

Not in the west! :rolleyes:

Er, yes they are. Apart from the fact that there's an extra province called Washington. EDIT: Which seems an odd name, unless the Canadians conquered it after it had been established by Americans...

Although H'lander's map is epic, this is a legitimate concern, as the provinces in OTL were only drawn up in the 1900s and 1910s IIRC and before that quite different boundaries were used.

I didn't know this until I did the map, but the name "Washington" for the state actually comes from the first leader of a group of settlers; a black man with a last name of Washington.

I'll put that on my list of revisions . . .

...Yeah, Alberta/Saskatchewan was just the (barely) accepted plan in 1905 even IOTL. There were a couple of others, with anywhere from one to four provinces (although I can't find any maps).

Here's a district map. IIRC, the plans were:

western_canada_map_c1900_800x600.jpg

  • All four districts formed into one provnce, called (IIRC) Assiniboia;
  • Divided into Assiniboia and Athabasca by a line running about midway through Saskatchewan;
  • OTL;
  • Attach Assiniboia to Saskatchewan;
  • All four become provinces.

To which I point to the :rolleyes: I made after the statement of the borders being different.

GAH! Columbia river as the border! Please use the Cascades or something else! The British pushed for the Cascades as the western boundary, and using the colombia as the border would case a huge fight for water in the Columbian Basin. Still very good map!

Well, ITTL the British jump in during the ACW and take said territories . . . aside from the watershed issue, is there any other good reasons for it not to be like this?
