I need Jefferson for something...

I have an idea that I am toying with.... just toying mind you. But it requires Thomas Jefferson being in British North America.... or at least a butterfied into existence Son.

How can I get Jefferson in Canada and still really be Jefferson. Not just someone that looks like him but acts totally different.

Any help or ideas?

well yes, but when would be good? Like I said I want him to still be Jefferson. Where if his family left when he was 2 and he grew up in York, Montreal or Halifax he would be a very different man.

Much of what he believed and wanted to do was tied to his identity as a Colonial or, later, American citizen. In his own mind, at least. I'm not sure he's one of these liberation-ist figures who can go to another country and have the same views for his new compatriots, like Che Guevara (a somewhat different example but he didn't have trouble maintaining his views no matter where he lived).

well as long as I can have him more loyal than less to the Crown.

Maybe an early bankruptcy?

Could you have his family move back to Britain, and then him return to Nova Scotia later in life? That could eliminate much of the desire to see the colonies promoted at the expense of London.

Wilburforce-influenced anti-slavery coalition takes over hard and early, somehow butterflying off the American Revolution and ending the slave-trade several decades ahead of schedule? Then a good friend who has moved to Nova Scotia before writes the dejected TJ a persuasive letter, and then...

A Burr in his side?

Jefferson tries rallying Virginia militia against Burr when Burr wins the Presidency by one vote.

His attempt fails and he is branded a traitor and escapes to Canada.

Or, more plausibly, against a Federalist Party that's continued to hold the Presidency by some legal scheme (like they in fact proposed.)
