I need a list of Union Generals from early 1861

I need to know, as I am going to be doing a TL soon on the Manassas Campaign of 1861.

Someone who can take the command of the first Union Army of the Shenandoah other than the OTL Robert Patterson.

From http://www.civilwarintheeast.com/USA/DepPA/DepPA6107.php:

The next 2 commanders would be Major Generals William Keim (2nd division) and C. P. Sandford (3rd division), with next runner up Brigadier General George Cadwallader (1st division).

I don't even recognize the names of the first two people:eek:. Cadwallader is nothing special iOTL afaik.

Circumstantial evidence from other sources leads me to believe that this listing may not be right chronologically. The Battle of Falling Waters, July 2nd, is the only actual engagement I could chronologue for Paterson's army, and I couldn't even find much about it.

It mentions the 2 Union brigades of Thomas (yes, that Thomas) and Abercrombie against the 1 Confederate brigade of Jackson (yes, that Jackson - this could actually lend itself well to a TL...). But according to this source, Thomas was part of the 1st division and Abercrombie part of the 2nd. Not impossible, but unlikely.

From the same source, but a different page (http://www.civilwarintheeast.com/USA/DepShen/DepShen6107.php), I can find the OOB from when the Department of Pennsylvania became the Department of the Shenandoah, on July 19th. By its timing, *just* too late for it to really affect Manassas.

However, that is assuming that the dates from the page are accurate. I suspect that this may have been the OOB as early as Falling Waters, based on the fact that Thomas and Abercrombie would not have been in different divisions (there not being multiple divisions) - plus the fact that 3-month troops did have a tendency to be sent en route to their muster-out point a while ahead of time.

If that is the case, the available commanders would be Colonels Thomas (1st brigade), Abercrombie (2nd brigade), and C. P. Stone (3rd brigade). I know which one I would put in charge of a Department...
