There is lots of artifacts, while the map could be used as reference it will be extremely difficult to modify and color iti saved it in PNG format...
The original map was too big so I had to put in it in imgur. Perhaps that's the problem. There is lots of artifacts, while the map could be used as reference it will be extremely difficult to modify and color it
Made it all in paint.Very nice work. Pretty and comprehensive! Maybe save it as an svg if it was made in a vector program?
Most of the work was done last year. I decided to finish it recently. Here we are now, it is done.Very well made! It's nice to see this level of dedication here on AH.com to a project like this.
My Iowan wife says that it's exact because of the low population density that the state has so many counties: It was easier to govern such a spread-out population with many small counties. For example, our county has around 1200 people. Big counties would have been troublesome because of the long travel distances between communities and farmsteads. Nowadays, the distances between towns in all directions is about a 30 minute car-ride.I've always wondered, is there any particular reason that states like Iowa or Georgia are divvied up into like 8 million different counties? California has the largest population in the country but has only 58 counties.
Don't want to get too off topic but here are some links that might help.I've always wondered, is there any particular reason that states like Iowa or Georgia are divvied up into like 8 million different counties? California has the largest population in the country but has only 58 counties.

VA was the trickiest part of this map.
VA's independent cities are too numerous to ignore.I just don't understand why the feel the need for all those independent cities. They just clog up the map and also make it hard to see any trends because in the US the Republicans are bound to win most areas if you split off their cities.
