Humphrey elected 1968

I know that in otl the popular vote margin between him and Nixon was narrow, less than 1 %

I am guessing that a more sensible Police policy by Daley at the convention combined with a rumour that Nixon's people were trying to de-rail Vietnam negotiations (which I believe they in fact were)

Does he have any option but to carry on in South East Asia or be seen to 'lose' Vietnam

Also what about Domestic policy

Humphrey took the same Vietnamization line as all the other candidates except McCarthy and Reagan, blatant pandering of Salt Lake City aside. Domestically he continue a pared-down Great Society but the stagflationary economy plus left-wing unrest will likely ensure a landslide defeat at Reagan's hands in 1972.

I'm sort of a mark for HHH, so here's how I see it...

He was already pulling away from Vietnam & was looking for a way out privately. (Btw, the Nixon people DID pull that little trick)

Anyone who knows Humphrey knows his domestics... Full Employment Act, Pro-labor, Public works, foodstamps, civil rights, etc. As a former Pharmacist, HHH likely might've pushed for more health care as well.
