Hudson Country New Jersey Merges

In 1869 the residents of Hudson County, New Jersey voted on a referendum to consolidate into a Greater Jersey City. Only Union township defeated the referendum, and do to it cutting off the other regions, ending the hopes of uniting the county.

Now what happens if Hudson County is able to consolidate. Its population was about 130,000 which would make it the 11th largest city in the United States. You also have three of the largest cities in the United States (Brooklyn, "Greater" Jersey city, and New York City) in a very small area. Hell, move aside St. Paul and Minneapolis we have the triplet cities.

I only ever heard of the place because I had to change planes there when I was returning from Halifax inTall Ships 2000 to Gatwick and took a wrong turning and uncessarily had to go through security given I was only changing planes. I only afterwards saw the irony of being checked in my own county!

Seriously I think you would have a potentially powerful political lobby with New Jersyey being as important a state to win the governship of and the primary and collegiate elections for the Presidency. Being the Mayor of the area would be an important step towards higher office. Newark Inter Liberty Airport airport may no longer be a cheap option to get to New York and may be named Woodrow Wilson airport

Quadruple! Don't forget Newark.

That would be a megalopolis threatening to make Philadelphia obsolete as a hub in New Jersey.
Oh well, we still have the liberty Bell.
