Hi guys, this question is of for my timeline, since I know that sooner or later, I will have to tackle the issue with that massive geopolitic entity. I read about it, but I have some questions for you :
1. What about the Imperial Elections before the Golden Bull ? What were the conditions ? I suppose there was bribery , but was Papal approval still relevant at this point.
2. What was the extent of the Imperial authority during the 1330's ?
3. Could John I of Bohemia make a serious challenger of the Imperial Crown if he has lets say the Avignon Papacy and French support . OTl, I understood that he was an ally of the French, but had a good relationship with the Emperor and "flirted" with the two.
4. I know that in theory the HRE was divided in 3 kingdoms, Burgundy (Arles), Germany and Italy : what was the situation in Northern Italy ? In Burgundy, where the Savoy, Anjou-Sicile, Dauphiné and Burgundians were clashing their spheres of influences ? In Germany, where there still big feuds about succession or disputes over territories ?
5. The mood of German nobility toward Ludwig I , especially important families Hapsburg, Luxembourg, Welfs, Wettin etc.
6. The Netherlands (Low Countries) : They (referring to Brabant, Hainaut, Luxembourg, Flanders, Namur, Limburg, Holland-Zealand-Frisia, Liège, Guelders) were pretty autonomous it seems. Brabant had family ties with Évreux, Hainaut with England and Valois, Guelders with England. While having family ties doesn't mean to be under the influence of, what was their relationships with England, France and the Emperor ? Could we divide the whole area into "spheres of influence" ? Is the amalgamation of titles and counties under one family in the end inevitable (Avesbes, Reginar, Wittlesbach) ?
I know there is a lot of questions asked, but I will be very happy and helpful if you guys can answer some of these. Meanwhile, I shall continue my research.
Thanks a lot and Happy New Year to all !!!
