Howard meets Tolkien and Lewis

What if the creator of Conan lives longer, reads "The Hobbit" and LOTR. What if he somehow meets the english high Fantasy authors ? How would Fantasy evolve ?

I suspect it would give him more concepts to include in his writing and might subsequently influence some that followed him. However, I think the pure "slash" style of fantasy would still evolve and thrive in its own right.

According to L. Sprague de Camp, Tolkien "rather liked" Robert E. Howard's works. I one wrote a TL where Howard, on the advice of Clark Ashton Smith, wrote to the "Head of the English Language Department" at Oxford about some word derivations, the letter was passed to Tolkien, and they began a correspondence which led to some interesting affairs.

I'd think the visual imagery of LOTR would appeal to him (as it does to most), but not the style of writing. REH's heroes were very gritty and rather ruthless at times. REH was a widely read man, and while he was obviously interested and inspired by such writers as ER Burroughs and HRR Haggard, his style of writing is nothing like them. Plus, in his last years, REH was getting away from fantasy stories and more into westerns and 'modern' stories...
