For those unaware, Bartolomé de Las Casas was a Dominican priest that was a major proponent against conquests against Native Americans. He argued they were, like all Europeans, God's people. Although he did propose African slavery as opposed to Native (though he later amended this point), and religious conversion through peace as opposed through forceful conversion, essentially making him a religious colonist, his proposals would have helped Europe respect the New World (at least in my eyes).

So, what would happen if the ecomienda system was abolished and replaced with Las Casas' proposals (and/or the time it happened IOTL was successful)? Would we see Christianity enter the Americas harsher than under Spanish rule? Or would it be a sort of "religious creole?" Would his efforts help protect Natives from slavery and discrimination or would it remain obscure? Would it spread beyond Spain's colonies or would it be ignored?
