At the Frankfurter Parliament in 1848 many politicians wanted a elective monarchy. The moderate left and the conservatives made a compromise and in OTL voted on a hereditary monarchy.
But something I don't understand is how this elective monarchy would have looked like. Who would be elector? The Parliament or nobles? And who would be eligible for the throne? Does anyone know more about this?
