how would Russian nationalism be changed if the USSR never collapsed but rather reformed into a democratic federation. This would follow the model shown in the "liberal USSR" timeline ,economic reforms in 60s/70s followed by free elections starting in the early 80s and a surviving country encompassing at least Russia,Central Asia, Caucasus, Ukraine and Belarus.
While the country would be a great deal larger and more poweful it would mean that the Russians would be equal in status to large numbers of Non orthodox Christians and non Russians so my question is would Russian nationalists see the USSR as a good thing or be opposed to it in the way European nationalists are opposed to the European Union.
