The PoD is actually in the 1920s, for some unspecified reason the soviet union begins their nuclear program during early Stalin's era. This is overshadowed by other programs, but it's development continues slowy but unharmed until 1945, allowing the soviet union to have some nuclear power plants in early 1945, probably in a closed city or in central siberia, far away from western spies.

On this scenario, as soon the bombs are dropped in Hiroshima the soviets begin to shift their nuclear program priorities from civilian to military nuclear use, and test their first nuclear bomb in early 1946, and while the nuclear race proceeds, there is some parity between the west and the east on the number of Nukes. A world war III scenario happens, maybe due the Berlim blockade or shortly after Stalin's death and the soviet Union overrun Nato in western europe, and some sort of truce happens, with both sides holding back their nukes.

^ This is not made to be accurate or likely, it is just a model of scenario to allow my question to be answered: The BRD got independence, but it was soon after annexed by the soviet puppet DDR. How would western germans react? Could this DDR absorb Alsace Lorraine? And since Germany is unified now, it is just a question of time for it to begin it's rise as a european power. How the soviets would act under these circunstances? Stalin would continue looting Germany to prevent it from surpassing the USSR as he did in OTL, but as soon he is gone and someone moderate like Nikita takes overm Germany most likely will be allowed to flourish.
