How would authoritarian states in the 1920es/30es/40es deal with the Internet.

Hypothetical thought :
If there had been a sudden rush of Information technology after the first quarter of the 20th century, with equivalents of today´s video channels, social networks , wikis etc., would extreme nationalism and hilarious propaganda appeal to the masses ? Would authoritarian governments have a real chance to maintain aggressive ideologies, which cause World War 2 ?

Plenty of authoritarian governments have done just fine with the internet today; I see no reason why it wouldn't work just as well back then.
