Dear all,
I am really getting into this piece of history:
Marshall was in doubt whether japan would surrender even after the two first nuclear bombs, the only one's available at that time.
1948 was proposed as a date for Downfall (not only Coronet, sorry).
Can we see a development where japan is holding out until 1948? despite mining of the inland waterways, hunger, famine, the lot?
Maybe the fanaticism can carry it that far. Plausible, I should think.
Now, how far is communism going in Asia? Will the Japanese armies in China still be there? They were not defeated at all, the same with the Burma armies.
Mao's long march does not seem plausible with the war against Japan still going.
Korean war is also out, isn't it?
Will macArthur be on pension or have faded away at that time? or have become the president?
Just another thought on a Japanese alternative.
