How well did the Chinese perform during the Korean War?

Operationally they were good given the constraints of their logistics support and lack of air power. Stratigcally the Chinese Army accomploshed the political goal of keeping the US/IN army away from Chinas border & preserving the North Korean state.

I'll leave the tactical level for others.

They were tactically not as proficient as the Americans and not as well equipped at all. But just the same they could inflict tactical defeats on American forces. Based on the poor performance of Chinese forces against western adversaries or the Japanese for the previous 150 years, the Chinese performance in Korea certainly exceeded global expectations at all three levels.

How well did the Chinese army perform during the Korean War?

How would you rate their performance?
They pushed the world's superpower, with all its combat experience and industrial might almost to Pusan. That's not bad.

They achieved strategic and tactical surprise, with help from the sycophants who Dougie had and his unwillingness to accept unfavorable intelligence information that did not conform to preconceived notions. Of course, having his two columns unable to support each other, and with the winter weather handicapping UN air support...

The Chinese had overwhelming numbers, and they were willing to absorb huge numbers of casualties (KIA and died of wounds DOW) to achieve their ends. They were able to operate on a shoestring, of course they lacked heavy weapons, significant armor, and medical services were minimal. Once the prewar lines were re-established the US was no longer willing to make a serious effort to go further north, and trhe Chinese were not able to dislodge them and the stalemate of the truce talks period set in.
