How successful could the Mexico have been in the Mexican-American War?

How successful could Mexico have been in the Mexican-American war over Texas? Personally, I struggle to see how Mexico could have maintained Texas, but I think that it might at least be able to maintain some of the territories that it was forced to sell to the US. This isn't my area of expertise, though.

You should read "A Mexican 'Victory' 2.0", that's an excellent TL about Mexico losing less with a POD a few weeks before the war begins.
Also, I have to look into this a bit deeper, but I believe there was a point where the Mexican army could have unraveled the American effort.
