How much faster would World War 2 end without Pearl Harbor and sinking of Force Z?

The Pacific War was obviously gonna happen since as early as the 20s, people predicted a war between Japan against the US and UK. All 3 major powers wanted domination of the Pacific, plus the juicy colonies of other colonial powers such as France and the Netherlands. Even as if Pearl Harbor never happened, the US would still obviously enter World War 2 since Germany was sinking American convoys just like World War 1 and the Pacific War was obviously gonna happen. How much faster would World War 2 end without the destruction of the American and British fleets at Pearl Harbor and Singapore? How would the air war go if the USAF, RAF, and the Luchtvaartafdeling was as fully prepared for war and wasn’t chopped up when the planes were still on the ground? How would the armies be affected? Post war effect if World War 2 ended sooner?

People put too much stock in inevitability. A sane Japan, or even one willing to take some alternative risks, could well have avoided war with the U.S. entirely or at least for many years. Then it's just a European war, which might be a little shorter if the U.S. devotes all its effort there, or a lot longer, if the U.S. stays as a nominally neutral supplier.

Historically, even with Pearl Harbour, the U.S. made pretty short work of Japan all told. But the evolution of fleet doctrine might follow a slightly different course if America wasn't forced into remaking the role of the aircraft carrier right from the outset. Even there, though, I have to think the vulnerability of battleships to air assault would become obvious eventually, if not there, than somewhere else.

I agree and in the US case 6 of the battleships were raised and eventually became beach softening support for amphibious landings. Had Pearl not happened and those ships ventured out in deep water and been sunk there the loss of life and permanent loss of those assets might have been much worse.

Plus the other psychological piece that is HUGELY important; The sneak attack aspect galvanized the country into one people with a common goal. If we just went to war without that justification don't think you have the same esprit de coir.
