In OTL, the Liberal Party of Canada formed the government for 22 straight years between the election of 1935 and the election of 1957, the longest stretch in government in Canadian history. Now, having the Liberals win the election of 1957, (therefore extending their tenure) is actually incredibly easy (after all, the Tory lead was only 7 seats). All you need to do to get the Liberals to majority status is avoid the pipeline debate and the Maple Leaf Gardens rally. My question is, how long could the Liberals have stayed in power after a 1957 victory? St. Laurent had already prepared to step down, with Pearson as his likely successor. How would Pearson do in the 1961/62 election? And is it at all possible to extend the Liberal tenure into the 1970s?
