How Long Could The American War for Independence Last?

This is just something I was curoius about, but in general, how long could the American War for Independence?

Now, I think their are really two ways of looking at this. The first is, how long could America keep on going with it's rebellion against the British? The second is, how log could the British continue trying to stop the rebellion in the US?

Any thoughts?

Could have gone on as a war of attrition for a good 10+ years, if the French hadn't been attacking the British. George III wanted to go on with the war even after Yorktown, and Congress would have resisted being forced to rejoin the British Empire at all costs. It's also possible the thing could have ended in a 10, 20, or even 50 year cease-fire, which was seriously considered OTL.

OTL Benjamin Franklin was sure he'd never live to see the end of it.
