How long could Pro Wrestling keep people fooled?

There was a time, believe it or not, when enough people believed Pro Wrestling to be real that they would actually place bets upon it like many still do with boxing today. The outcomes of matches were shown in Sports newspapers and the like, even.

I believe this all changed in 1935 when someone in the industry, having been disenfranchised and wishing to get even, came forward and exposed everything.

But what if that had never happened? How long could Pro Wrestling keep the general populace believing that the Kayfabe was real?

And yes, I'm aware that in the very early stages of the 20th century, it WAS real, like with Frank Gotch. I'm not referring to that era.

I believe most people knew it was a work by the mid-1980s.

Assuming everyone, including McMahon (or if there was no McMahon) continues the ruse, I will say when the mass public gets ongoing access to the internet, which the promoters wouldn't be able to regulate.
