How long could a Native American Union last?

Throughout the Indian Wars, there were several attempts to create a confederation of Native Americans to defend against American expansion. Say one of these formed and was successful against America, what internal problems would it face and how long would it be before they boil over and tear the confederacy apart?

Would it not depend on the where & when of the Confederation? Maybe some eastern tribes head as far west as they can go early on and tell the western tribes "They are coming"

If the confederation is a cult of personality then they probably last as long as the leader lives and splinters after the leader's death

The Iroquois have been confederated since the 1450s, maybe the 1250s depending on the astronomical data.

They did have some things going for them, dense population, linguistic and cultural similarities, and Algonquins to the north.

Tribal peoples tend to stay a tribe as long as it works for them. when several tribes form a confederation they do so as long as it works for them. The USA was very good at playing members off against each other.

The British have to do better during the 1812 war. They wanted a large "neutral" Indian state that would cover much of Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.

If the British can do well enough to get this established and guaranteed then it might last long enough for America to get used to its existence. Britain might have to prove its willingness to fight for the independence of the 'Nation' - the potential butterflies could be 'interesting'......

The USA never invaded Canada so there is at least a chance that if there are no raids from the Indian lands it could continue until today....

Before 1500 doesn't matter; after 1500, doesn't help

Guns, germs, and steel is an understatement, but it really sums up the reasons a collision between neolithic peoples and the modern era is only going to end in one way.

The Western Hemisphere offered incredible wealth, literally beyond imagination, to the peoples of the Eastern Hemisphere as soon as technology was in place to transfer tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and millions of people across the Atlantic.

For the Columbian Exchange to not occur requires a fundamental change in human behaviour.

Good luck with that.

Best,

This would still be Canadian territory, though, right?
