How long can we delay WWI?

How long would it actually take for Russia to grow strong enough to win against Germany on its own?

1920 seems way too early.

Why would France stay out of a Russiz vs. germany conflict. Unless The British have signed a pact of Anglo-Saxon fraternity with Germany it would make sense that France joins in with Russia.

Wiking: would you say that a general European War between, say, 1870 and 1920 was unlikely, or that the particular circumstance of WW1 (assassination of Franz Ferdinand) was unlikely to result in war? If the latter, I agree with you entirely. I think the issue is that the entire history of Europe post-Sedan and pre-WW1 features nearly consecutive crises, each of which has only a small chance (5%?) of resulting in war, but which in combination mean that general war is nearly certain.

You used to hear the same argument about an inevitable war being thrown around back during the Cold War.

The point is I doubt Russia would grow so strong so fast
