How far could they go?

It seems to me that between the late '60s and mid '90s Britain was in a worse shape than many other Western democracies, and looking at the extremes of the right and left during this period you'd almost think these were the last years of the Soviet Union.

So what are the most radical policies that the Tories on one side and Labour on the other could have implemented between, say, the 1967 devaluation of the pound and the 1994 PIRA ceasefire? Were Rivers of Blood and Clause IV realistic possibilities?
