Rather iffy. There was so much still not understood, like how much takeoff run a plane needed, how much avgas bunkerage required , One actually doesn't' have the Yorktowns in hand to see where all the goofs are to be avoided to fix these bolos. Otherwise Hornet would not have beenm a Yorktown repeat.
The Japanese carriers are essentially rebuilds of the botched Akagi/Kaga prototypes or brand new experiments, Soryu and Hiryu. Zuikaku and Shokaku are `1938 and 1939 lay downs. being their "Yorktown" standard after the previous four mistakes.
The Hiryu was actually modified based on mistakes made in Soryu and that was while both were building ~1935!
Wasp ~1936-1940 was an experiment to fix the mistakes seen that were made on Ranger and was adjudged a failure, herself.
Yorktown herself is 2 years old, (1933) and based on the lessons learned from the Lexingtons. There was not time to make the lessons learned into ships for the coming war.
