How does a Continued Cold War impact the 1992 election

Let's presume that the Soviet August Coup in 1991 is successful and results in a continued Cold War. How would this impact the 1992 Presidential Elections? Would people trust Bush over Clinton or Perot in the face of a renewed Soviet threat, and thus give Bush a second term? If not, how would Clinton manage the Cold War struggle?

I think it's gonna be pretty hard to get the Cold War in all its glory back, if the Berlin Wall stays down and most of Eastern Europe remains outside of Russian domain.

At most, I think a successful coup would be seen as by most people as a "bump on the road" in the journey away from Communism and toward a new and supposedly more democratic world. The mainstream Republican spin would probably get as dark as "This should remind us that there are still a lot of dangers out there, can't let those naive Democrats get back in charge of national defense".

It might effect the elections, but again, more as an isolated, though possibly telling, incident than as the wholesale resumption of previous trends. On the one hand, the GOP would try to put forth the spin mentioned in the previous paragraph, but on the other hand, a lot of people might take note that this geopolitical regression took place under the Republican watch.
