How do you think a map of the Mediterranean would look like had Carthage won the 2PW?

As the title says: Let's say Hannibal manages to force the Romans into a surrender. How he does that, whether he conquers Rome itself or not, how many Italian tribes join him etc. is up to you. But based on the way he achieves victory, tell me how do you think a map of the mediterranean would look like after it? Does all of Italy become a Carthaginian colony, is Roman rule limited to just Latium, does Italy balkanize into the tribes that make it up under some degree of Carthaginian protection, or what? Is Rome's status, as a state, reduced to the same status Carthage was reduced to IOTL after the second Punic War? And in general, what are the terms forced upon Rome in the peace treaty following Hannibal's victory?

Well given Hannibal's going to have a devil of a time taking Rome, and that his victory would rely on as much as the Italian states joining him (which was done with the idea that they would be independent), Italy is not going to be completely controlled by Carthage.

However, let me give a victory scenario: Hannibal wins at Cannae. He immediately marches outside Rome. This puts pressure on the Roman senate, which nearly accepted peace terms OTL after Cannae, to seek terms.

Hannibal might be tempted to demand they relinquish control of Italian states like Capua and Tarentum for example, but Rome wouldn't accept that. He doesn't have too much time either-he can't camp outside Rome for long or he will be surrounded.

So he accepts this deal: Carthage has free reign in Spain, Rome hands over Sicily, Sardinia, and Corsica, and maybe Rome has to pay some sort of indemnity.

Rome then is left to fight the the Italian states that threw off their yoke, while Hannibal goes back to Carthage. I imagine they'd be successful, though they'd be in a horrible state.

Carthage was more interesting in trade than in territory. Even its expansion in Spain would probably have been ephemeral it it had won the Second Punic War. If it somehow defeated Rome (and very iffy proposition, IMHO), it would try to break up Roman power in Italy and keep the peninsula divided.

That is a very complicated issue really:It would depend on many factors, many of them with unknown papametres, for example,if Hannibal doesn't have a black out like a novice to fall for the Roman ruse, marches north and the last Roman army of note is caught in a vice between Hannibal and his brother and is destroyed in Metaurus river,Rome would surrender or starve to death and all Italian states would declare their independence along with the Greek city states in the foot of Italy:winkytongue:hillip of Macedon would then land with an army in Italy for his share of the profits as Hannibal's ally.Syracusae would probably want the burning of Rome to the ground....and of course the big eastern block of the Diadochoi states would take note and first burn Pergamos and then? everything is on the cards here...

I'd agree with this.

Carthage's ally Macedon won't see its power in the Balkans shattered by Rome like IOTL though, which is something, although history shows that Macedon is unlikely to ever be able to totally control the Greek city states.
