Just visited a thread on the battle of the bulge as portrayed in the 1974 movie. Which I quite enjoyed.

One of the things they did that made it cheaper to film and allow for dramatic vistas was film the thing in Spain. In Summer.

So instead of fighting in the misery of an incredible snowstorm through the mountains, they had them sweating it out on a plain in Spain with no rain. The parting shot is of the German troops walking back east through the sagebrush.

Sorry guys, that is just wrong.

So if you were a director with a budget, how wrong could you get it, and what do you think would be really annoying mistakes? Longstreet clean shaven. Lee riding a black mare. A movie about the Six Day war being filmed in the Koala peninsula in winter? Casting Morgan Freeman as Yamamoto. Paul Rubens as Goering. Filming about WWII Italy in Kansas. Filming the battle of Kursk in Idaho.

If you let Hollywood have its way, how bad can it get?
