support isn't that rampant for the end of the monarchy. now granted it wouldn't take much for that good will to be ruined. as it stands, the job is safe, I could see Charles taking a pass in the interest of both the monarchy and the nation.
the role is already mainly figurehead, you could lessen the burden on the nation by reducing costs associated with the house of Windsor by making them invest their own money, but so long as They continue to fill a role of impartial unity for the nation then well by god, god save the Queen/King.

Alright interesting, tho quick note, the premise was both Liz and Charles are dead.
Also, do you think the King/Queen does more background work?
They do lots of background work, from goodwill tours, to I am certain private conversations with the prime minister and government, along with being the unifying head of the commonwealth. Elizabeth has earned her respect. so IF Charles is out, Prince William would make a good King baring some ASB to take over his mind or something

aye, and while he is not my most popular idea for taking the throne, it could be loads worse and the man is not a buffoon. The guy has waited 64 years for this. He is not taking a pass.

If I was him I would pass in favor of William only because of his age, the nation will grieve with the passing of Elizabeth, the Era would close with the death of Charles ( which at his age one never knows ). turn it over to the younger generation and enjoy the life I had been given. ( not like the prince is poor and obscure )![]()
heh, maybe, but doubtful, but their is added stress. top that with stress to the national budget for coronations and state funerals, and even if he is King, its a small blip on the royal time line. If it is turned over to William, he could lead the nation through a large portion of the 21st century thus keeping stability on the throne
I think it was New Zealand that held a non-binding poll that suggested that they should consider becoming a republic in the inevitable event of Queen Elizabeth's death. At the moment I think it's only Barbados that's seriously considering it.
I don't think there's any real meaningful push at the moment for the Monarchy to be abolished in the UK, and for all the grumbling about the cost of the Royal List, I really don't think we will be a republic in the near future.
I think if it were to happen, it would need Republicanism to become a central policy of a major party, and not even the Labour party have seriously considered it really, certainly not to that extent anyway.
His Republican tendencies have taken a back seat to just how incompetent a Leader he is.Ah I see, always a good thing to know people still have their heads on straight. Do you think that's one of the reasons Corbyn's facing such a tough time of it?
Aha that is very true. Tbf, the conservatives aren't doing any better. His Republican tendencies have taken a back seat to just how incompetent a Leader he is.
This is more a subject for chat in the Labour Leadership or PMQ threads.Aha that is very true. Tbf, the conservatives aren't doing any better.

Anyway, what other changes might there be should Liz and Charles both pop it?
Depending on how they die, there could be an upswing in popularity of the Monarchy, especially if the publicity was managed well. William could find himself riding a wave of sympathetic popularity.
