House of Dunkeld continues

After several interesting discussions, I have begun to wonder, what might have happened had one of Alexander III's two sons Alexander or David survived past 1286.

Would Edward I still look to force himself on the Scots? Would Alexander or David look to reintroduce Gaelic ways, would they look to reclaim land in northumbria?

What would the politics of the time be like with a surviving male Canmore heir?

Prince Alexander of Scotland

After doing a lot of reading, thought I'd put this out here.

So Prince Alexander of Scotland, was the eldest son of King Alexander III of Scotland, born in 1264 and died in 1284. What I am wondering is, what if he had not died and had continued to live on past 1284, would this mean that his father Alexander III would not marry Yolande of Dreux and therefore would not go gallavanting off into that storm? Would Edward I still look to conquer Scotland, or work with his nephew?
