Holy Roman France's colonial policy

A followup to this thread.....

if Francis (by any means) manages to become Holy Roman Emperor and integrate France into the HRE, what effects would that have on France's colonial policy? Would a much more European-oriented France only try halfheartedly at colonizing, or even not at all? Or would the German and Italian ships and merchants benefit France and allow for a more successful colonization?

Italy by this time was almost totally outside the orbit of the Holy Roman Empire, though with Francis I as HRE and King of France probably means that Francis has double the murky claims on northern Italy.

The German princes had effective independence by this point, the Hansa is in decline or dead and the merchant-city areas of the HRE were owned outright by the Hapsburgs (the Burgundian inheritance), so I don't know how much of a commercial bump Francis is going to get out of Germany.

Furthermore, I think that with the better claims in Italy (from the theoretical Imperial overlordship of Italy and his pre-existing claim on Milan) plus the Imperial title in Germany, will probably keep Francis very involved in European politics.

Basically, King Carlos I of Spain (Charles V of OTL) and Emperor Francis I of France are going to be even more deadly enemies in this TL. So Francis' policies will have to be even more focused than OTL.

If Francis is captured as he was OTL by Carlos I, then will he be forced to give up the Imperial title?
