Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI, King of Spain

What if the Hapsburgs won the War of Spanish Successsion and Archduke Charles become King Carlos III of Spain? What would the revived Hapsburg empire be like? Could Charles VI have a son? What if?

Not gonna happen. The allied powers didn't want a Union between Spain and France and they wanted a union between Spain and Austria even less. No one would allow such a union exist. If Austria tried to push for it we could see Britain and the Netherlands switch sides to support the French claims.

Why do you add a second "what if?" when you're done with your "what if" questions? Is it like an OCD thing?

Actualy I think this is an interesting situation. Britain and the Netherlands (and the rest of Europe) obviously don't want a Franco-Spanish Union, but an Austro-Spanish union is also pretty (although slightly less) bad. I rwaly could see the war ending in an Austro-Spanish union and soon after round 2 in which the Netherlands, Britain and France are allied to break up that union.

IMHO a 2nd Round wouldn't be necessary, the allies of Charles VI could leave him towards the end of the actual conflict and at the negotiation table.
Then again what would constitute a Austro-Spanish Union everything or does France already get bits of the Spanish Inheritance?
Anyway once this becomes a real possibility, the other Powers will switch sides and direct it towards an outcome like IOTL.

If for some IMHO unlikely reason, that doesn't happen, then the Austro-Spanish Union will face powerful alliances aimed at breaking that union in future conflicts.

So what if Emperor Joseph I did not die in 1711, and Charles becomes Charles III of Spain. Obviously no Austro Spanish union, right? So that would be peachy for England and the others.

But then, after this TL peace, say in 1716, Joseph died suddenly without male heirs, and Charles III of Spain also becomes Emperor Charles VI!

What then?

After ^^^ Charles VI agrees to divide his realms amongst his heirs as a precondition for British and Dutch support (and possibly as part of an alternate Pragmatic Sanction) . When he dies... I always assumed that Maria Theresia would still get the central European possessions (and maybe all of the Italian ones too) and Maria Anna would get Spain and her colonial possessions (assuming he doesn't have alternate children). On his death Prussia and France press claims on both thrones and a super War of Austrian Succession breaks out.
