Hollywood Has a Donkey: Reagan Remains Democratic

Ronald Reagan was a registered Democrat until the 1960's. As we all know, his political views shifted to the right, and he went on to become a Republican President, whose ideas alienated much of america from the Democratic Party, and continue to shape American political debate. But why did he switch political allegiance in the first place? It turns out that the impetus was his affair with conservative actress Nancy Davis. But fate is fickle. What would have happened if he had stayed progressive? The answer is:

B]Hollywood Has a Donkey: Reagan Remains Democratic[/B]!

There was but it died out of nowhere a few months ago.

But, you know Reagan's switch to the Republican Party wasn't just because of Nancy. I've thought he always had that lean towards the right, but nevertheless joined the Democratic Party. I think the main way to shift Reagan from being a Republican is to keep him as far away from GE Theater as possible, while also keeping him away from Nancy.

Since the involvement with GE Theaters came later, I'm using Davis and the cancelled nuclear protest as the main PODs. Thanks for the suggestion

I blame General Electric sooner than Mrs. Reagan myself, especially since Mrs. Reagan has shown since his death a willingness to break conservative tradition.

I always thought that Donald O Connor should have gone into politics. he would have been a natural with Francis.

He doesn't sound like he leans right at all here.

It would be cool to have a battle between Democratic Ronald Reagan and Republican Barry Goldwater(Head Conservative without Reagan) in the early 70s or early 80s

I think if anything would turn Ronald Reagan off the Right it would be an affair with Ayn Rand. That would show him how a REAL Libertarian thinks.

Not to be superficial, but I really don't see how those two could ever end up together outside Freedomain Radio Fanfics.

Didn't Reagan's shift to the Right have something to do with HUAC? Or am I wrong?
EDIT: I do remember him giving one of the best ever refutations EVER to HUAC regarding the whole nonsensical idea that Commies would ever take over America.
