Hohenzollern Spain, French Catalonia?

France and Prussia nearly went to war in 1868 over the Spanish offering the crown to Prince Leopold of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Ultimately the Spanish went with a Savoyard, then a Republic, and then went back to the Bourbons.

Could a compromise have been made in which Prince Leopold is allowed to become King of Spain but France gains Catalonia?
The pot could be made marginally sweeter with tidbits like Menorca, Val d'aran, Andorra, and Llivia.

No.

Even if France were to get Catalonia (and the other places), France would not be willing, under any circumstances, to allow Leopold to be king of Spain without a fight. The reasoning behind it being that if Leopold were the King, France would be placed back into the position it was in when the Habsburg's ruled Spain and the HRE, and that is something France would find unacceptable to go through again.

I heavily doubt it, partly because the big man behind Leopold was Juan Prim, a Catalan himself which stated that "no matter who reigns, the territorial unity of Spain shall not be questioned". France wouldn't allow a Hohenzollern in Spain without a fight, so maybe this could possibly happen if France beats both Prussia and Spain in a war but ends up so war torn that is forced to accept Leopold on the Spanish throne.
