Hohenzollern Hungary?

What if a ruler from the house of Hohenzollern gets elected as king of Hungary after Matthias Corvinus dies? would the Hohenzollerns stay in power? How would Austria be affected? How would the rest of the HRE be affected?

I am not knowledgeable on that subject, but looking at the case of Louis XIV who kinda if I remember well imposed a relative to Spain (with a war ensuing, no?) - in theory, if the fortunes of those countries change maybe...

Or before and after, a royal daughter marriage... OR a different 'line' of the Hohenzellern kings, like the House of Valois and Bourbons to the Main Capetians... for another era of opportunity..

Well, the Brandenburg branch of the Hohenzollerns isn't the only branch, after all - the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringens supplied the Kings of Romania, and were traditionally Catholic.

Why would the Hungarians elect a Hohenzollern to the throne to begin with? That question needs to be answered before we can talk about effects on and reactions from the Habsburgs, the HRE and other neighbouring powers.

This was before Brandenburg and the Hohenzollerns were all that significant in Imperial politics beyond having an electoral vote. Poor and sandy Brandenburg sure as hell wouldn't make a very good ally against the Habsburgs at this point.

A general POD to get a Hohenzollern on the Hungarian throne would be to have an earlier breakup of Austria-Hungary, lets say late 19th century. So instead of WWI it would just be a local war in Eastern Europe that would result in Austria becoming a rump state. The rest broken up by the European powers and the Hohenzollern's putting one of their own on the Hungarian throne as a Cadet branch/puppet of the German Empire.

Given that the OP specified a 15th century PoD, I don't think a 19th century breakup of A-H is relevant. (Though I guess it would be technically correct in that it would be "after Matthias Corvinus dies"...Even if it's up to 400 years later.)

There is a very easy PoD for that. Rákóczi doesn't stumble from his horse at the battle of Trencsen. A Hungarians win the battle and are able to join the Prussian army and install a Hohenzollern to the Hungarian throne, as was their plan.

Okay, this is 1708, but still a more plausible PoD than mentioned in the OP.
