HMS Revenge - a question

On 14th September 1940 the Battleship REVENGE and light cruiser EMERALD departed the Clyde escorted by the destroyers MACKAY, WESTCOTT, SCIMITAR and SKATE arriving at Plymouth on the 15th.

I remember reading somewhere that on the 14th that this group of ships were shadowed for a little while by a LW recon plane but can't for the life of me remember where.

Does anyone have any further information on their passage from the Clyde to Plymouth ... in particular the route they took??

Probably due to the air threat they would have gone down the Irish sea or round Ireland and then in and up to Plymouth rather than risk sailing down the east coast.

I thought the same but need confirmation ... plus that would have taken considerably longer; two days possibly rather than the one day shown.

:p I think someone's getting east and west confused. The Clyde is on the west coast, Plymouth is in the southwest. The Irish Sea route is both quicker and safer than going round Scotland and down the east coast, then heading all the way through the Channel.

Considering there were ships sunk by air attack in the Irish Sea it's not beyond a possibility that there might have been air attacks there.
It's a lot less likely than if they went all the way around Britain (which is also, to be quite frank, like going 2 sides of a triangle on top of putting the ship in greater danger of an air attack).
