Hitler wins the Presidential election of 1932

The German one, before anyone thinks this is some atrocious 'Hitler's parents emigrate' thread.

Pretty simple premise, and one I've never really looked into or seen discussed much - how do the Nazis consolidate power if Hitler is elected President? Who does he appoint as Chancellor? Does the post of Führer ever come to be?

Germany shifts to a presidential sistem like in USA?

I don't know who would be named Chancellor, but it wouldn't matter really. Hitler could declare a state of emergency and rule by decree quite easily, which would allow him to abolish the post ASAP.

Was Roehm a deputy at this point? Hitler could appoint him Chancellor which would serve several functions...he would be loyal to Hitler, but would probably make a pigs' ear of it, giving Hitler more of an excuse to abolish the position when he decided the 'state of emergency' was sufficient for him to turn the presidency into a fuhrer-ship.

IMHO, President turns into Führer, Goering is set up as Chancellor (he already was Präsident of the Reichstag after all), and the rest of the program remains the same.

It would be Hess... Hess was the Hitler's deputy at that point, plus since he was a quieter behind the scenes kind of fellow, it would counter balance Hitler's dominence of the spotlight

Or he could put Goring in the post, but I doubt it.

Goering was given a crapload of offices when the Nazi's took over and during their rise (PM of Prussia, president of the Reichstag, leader of the police leader of the air force, member of economic ministry)...the more likely thing is that Hitler consolidates the two offices into his own hands after purging the leftist parties (as otl)... if there was a chancellor under him it would be Hess, and he would either have no power or only have the job temporarily

Hess could work - his lack of personality would serve to undermine the office of Chancellor to the point it would be merged with that of President/Fuhrer. But Goering would need one hell of a consolation prize!

He got them (consolations) in OTL... I listed his offices in the previous post, if anything Goering was overwhelmed by the number of responsibilities Hitler gave him after the Nazi's started consolidating their hold on power hence you saw Goering's police duties transferred gradually to Himmler, and his economic jobs moved to Schatt; so that he could focus on his air force duties (which where more than enough for any one man anyway)
