Hitler the Super Spook

Adolf Hitler served as a corpral during the first world war and assumed he knew a whole lot about military stuff. He was later sent to spy on a small German party which ihe took over and the rest is (sad) history...

That would make him a more sucessful spy then soldier. So what if Hitler start think he is some kind of super spy. Would hee mess up German intelligence once he get into power? Become a self-styled super spook? Or a hack writer of bad spy stories?

I had a short story in which Hitler focused more on the spying aspect of his job, then the politics. So when he first heard the Nazi's talk, it was not an awe inspring event, but simply some guys talking about "greater glory."

So as time goes on he keeps being sent to these little groups. As the government stops caring about the parties and focuses on just the fringe aspects Hitler, as a regular face with in the Nationalist circles, goes on to join various groups looking for any who are willing to use violence. Hitler makes much of his money from being a an undercover agent. He makes one good arrest, and then is some what famous thanks to the press coverage. So in the 30's Hitler applies to work for the newly created Reich Staatspolizei in Berlin, and continues to act as a investigator.

He has a few friends, and eventually marries a local girl. In 1955 Hitler dies with his two duaghters, and wife close by. He is somewhat remebered in intellegence circles, and history buffs thanks to helping stop the assassination of President von Papen in 1935.

Adolf Hitler, IC[1] (c. April 20, 1889 – November 5, 1975), famously known as the Ace of Spies, was a Austrian-born adventurer and secret agent employed by the German Secret Intelligence Service.[2] He is alleged to have spied for at least four nations.[3] His notoriety during the 1950s was owed in part to his friend, architect, author and Mayor of Berlin who sensationalised their thwarting of the National Socialist Partys attempt to overthrow the Weimar Republic in 1923 .[4]

After Hitlers death, Der Spiegel published in May, 1981, a Master Spy serial glorifying his exploits. Later, Helmut Kohl would use Hitler as the hero of series of spy novels that sold world wide and were made into at present a dozen movies .
The first being

Putsch and Shove:Agent Wolf (Adolf) is sent under cover to investigate the German Workers Party. There he uncovers a plot to seize power from the new democratic government.

it was quickly followed by

Marxican Standoff : The Wolf has to put as his hatred of Socialists to save the exiled former leader Trotsky.

The Reign in Spain : When Fascism rears it ugly head in the form of a plot against the Spanish throne by General Franco only the Wolf can save the peace in Europe.

Brits and Pieces : The Wolf joins forces with a beautiful and deathly British agent Nancy Mitford to stop the collapse of the empire in the east.

Hmm.

Fortunately for Germany, their strategic intelligence was roughly as effective as astrology. Hitler can not dork it up much worse than it already was.

I suppose, though, that this would make much more of a Secret Police creep as opposed to a military warmonger. Seems a good deal like Josef Stalin to me. His political interests would be the same, its just that he would be a very poor player in the intelligence arena.

The creepy part is that this might mean that Germany is more successful in war, as he bothers the Wehrmacht less and the SS more.. Still, I doubt he has what it takes to be a good spy--his mental behavior seems unreliable and he is a man of questionable loyalty in most sorts. Hitler isn't a guy I think should be playing spymaster. (Actually, Hitler's the kind of guy who needs a straitjacket).

It might also mean that he launches purges and assassinates rivals more ruthlessly. This could mean people like Erich Speer, Wilheim Canaris, and even Goring and Himmler could get the knife. Hard to say how this would turn out...
