Hitler Holds Out?

... If the effort put into fortifying these places plus the effort to build subterranean V-2 factories and places like La_Coupole of Wizernes or the V-3 gun site at Mimoyecques is put into Normandy, the difficulties of the Allies are greatly increased.

.

Yes, yes sorry for the lame joke.

Those are a lot of ifs though. Normandy was choosen for a bit more then lacking fortification. They would still prepare for invading at Normandy(i wasn't really serious of them changing location of Overlord), only now calculating the fortifications in. More difficulties? Yes. Delay? not really.

Such a large change in OTL causes all kinds of butterflies. But i don't believe in butterflies.

I don't really see the point in placing the V-3 gun site too Normandy, it would be pretty useless against overlord and probably destroyed by air raids. So would the V-2 sites.
There is a slight misunderstanding: I did not write about putting the V-3 gun into Normandy, but about putting the effort used for constructing the site into fortifications in Normandy. The same goes for the giant V-2 bunker at Wizernes and the subterranean caves where the V-2s were built and most of the fortifications on the Channel Islands and Norway. Abandoning the V-2 and V-3 altogether frees a lot of resources.

I agree with you that Normandy was not chosen for lack of fortifications alone. If I remember correctly, Normandy not only had enough beaches, but was also the place with the shortest average distances to ports in South England. So even if there are more fortifications, the invasion will take place there. The fortifications alone would not delay the end of the war by three months, but in combination with other PODs they would contribute to these effects.
