I don't know if this has been proposed beforeI may have even posted this before, but the idea is this.
Germany and Russia still sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, with the secret clause for the division of eastern europe.
But one thing that is not clear to me, is whether or not they ever decide on a schedule. What if Hitler does not invade Poland, what if he creates false intelligence via a double agent that he will invade Poland by a certain date and intend to take it all?
Essentially what if Russia invades first, and Hitler reacts with outrage, offers an alliance with Poland (it's either that or face destruction) and goes to war with Russia with the fall support of the international community?
Germany would almost certainly win such a war, capturing a huge swathe of russia and being in de-facto control of Poland maybe one day de-jura. Probably forming a 'Warsaw Pact' against Russia consisting of finland, estonia, latvia, lithuania, poland, hungary etc.
If Hitler leaves it there he would have created a german super-power and probably be much vaunted as Europes saviour against Communism.
Of course it is possible that once Russia is dealt with he turns back onto the west, with a far greater chance of winning that.
Any thoughts?
