Hitler dies on July 20th, 1944, Waffen-SS reaction?

Despite been the private army of the Nazi party, after the fiasco of 1943 and 1944 many senior Waffen-SS leaders grew increasingly tired of Hitler's management of the war and sympathetic of their counterparts in the Wehrmacht.

Assuming Hitler dies in the bunker and the initial stage of the coup successed. Does the Waffen-SS complies with the order to integrate into the Heer? Or do they try to put down the coup?

I can see a varied reaction. Some comply, some don't and resign or even commit suicide. Out of the latter, a small fanatical portion react with violence and attempt a countercoup to establish their own sympathetic leader and continue the war.

In Germany the SS is vastly outnumbered and outgunned by the Wehrmacht. If the SS tries anything funny with the Heer they will be put down.

Sepp Dietrich had privately told Rommel he would obey the army high command if there was a coup. "your the boss herr feldmarshal" His influence would be huge in getting the western SS to fall in line and do the bidding of a new government.

Assuming Beck could get the most popular and important generals aboard after a successful take over (Rommel, Manstein, Guderian, Galland, and Model at least) the SS would play ball. They had served under the army generals for years and had for the most part good working relationships. The army and ss only really fell apart from cooperating in the very end in 1945

Exactly ..... A lot op people did not realise that influential Waffen SS officers like Dietrich , Steiner and Hausser hated Himmler with a passion. If Himmler tryed to take the top job by force ... he couldn't count on these guy's help.

Eh, if Hilter is killed by the July 20 plot, the blame is going to fall on the SS for doing it. Beck's new government may or may not be able to negotiate a truce with the allies, though one would assume the war would be conducted in a more rational mindset.

Did they really plan to blame the SS like in: "OMG they killed out beloved Führer for trying to negotiate with the Allies."

It would come off as believable as the faked Polish attack on that radio station on September 1st 1939

That relies on Beck being able to form a new government and that the fronts don't collapse in the immediate aftermath as no-one knows who's in charge.

The military chain-of-command is probably not much affected. If I´m right Ersatzheer HQ would be on top of the Army´s. As long as every unit tries to hold its position not much should happen and I don´t think SS-units would have "left" the line, certainly not in the East.
