Hitler dies on April 23

This is an incredibly small POD, so I'm wondering if it'd make any difference whatsoever. Hitler kills himself immediately after the Steiner-Rant, several days earlier than OTL. Is there anything possibly changed by this?

Göring might become new chancellor. But probably there wouldn't be major changes. But Göring might try negotiations with Allies but it is already doomed attempt.

Maybe a few individuals escape to the west, like Traudl Junge. Doenitz might not be named a replacement with Himmler and Fegelein still around, and they might have pursued a different endgame. Doenitz dragged out the final days to allow civilians to flee west.

Whoa.
Very good you kept the Steiner rant.

I haven't looked at that for a while.

What is he saying about Trump?

Angry about the comparisons to him?

Why kill himself. Let's have him a stroke, thats just left him barely alive but aware. Let him watch how everything ends and be unable to say or do anything about it.

I think that might change the fates of some of the top Nazis, and alt Nuremberg might have some faces(Himmler esp) who were dead OTL at that point.

Since the Soviets had not completed the encirclment yet the news about Hitler dying might spare the city from the worst fighting. Also, if Hitler dies before choosing the commander the Germans would have no overall commander. But if he chooses Weidling as the commander and dies shortly after i think that Weidling would act more rationally and try to break out ASAP to join the remaing forces under Heinrichi and try to reach the Americans.

Do you think there's any hope the breakout would succeed? I always rate the chances of the end-of-war Germans doing something successful very low.

If they move quickly before the Soviets reinforce their forces they have a better chance than the OTL breakout

If the breakout somehow works, Berlin will be left defended by a handful of diehard irregulars and stragglers that couldn't get out in time. Probably wouldn't be as bloody, but there'd still be a vicious city fight.
