Hitler dies at an inconvenient time

Suppose Hitler dies between Feb. 1933 and June 1940 or between Feb. 1943 and July 1944 does the Nazi party remain in power, and how does it effect the war effort if the war even starts? I think the only chance it has to survive if Hitler dies before he dies IOTL is if he dies between the Fall of France and whenever most Germans thought defeat was likely. Otherwise without his charisma or whatever the thing cannot hold.

If he dies very early on, say still in '33, than that means a really different future for the Nazi party - as the SA still exist. If it is somewhen later on, but still before the war, I see the Nazi Party staying in power but WW2 either not starting, or being very different. Anyway, it would probably mean a smarter Fuhrer. If it happens during the war -especially during the later stages of the war - than I see a struggle for power between the different factions in Nazi Germany (with the SS trying to seize power). The Nazi regime was highly disorganized and chaotic, because if it wasn't than it meant he could simply be replaced for everything to simply go on. He created a chaotic system so that it relied completely on him, and thus if you remove Hitler, the system would collapse as it is not clear to whom power goes - Goering? Goebbles? Himmler? All of them are power-hungry and would likely try to seize power when they can (and, IOTL, two of them did try to seize power for themselves when it became clear the Fuhrer was no longer functioning). There might be a Nazi civil war (though I cannot tell where the Wehrmacht would stand in this - would they try to oust the Nazis? would they wholly support one side over the other? would some generals support different factions, so it will not just be a Nazi but a German civil war?

Orko, I think except, perhaps, for between July 1940, just after the Fall of France or maybe even earlier than Oct. 1942, not too long after second Alemein IIRC, let alone Feb. 1943, with a dead Hitler, Germans would lose their faith in Nazis enough for the house of cards to fall, and Hitler dies early enogh the house is never built.

The Nazi party had no real system of sucession, no-one had really thought that far ahead. It would have been chaotic, confusing and ultimately destructive for Nazi germany. If it occurs in the early 30's, then you might see a politcal civil war and maybe even the collapse of the Nazi party. Early 1940 pre-Fall of France? Then you would probably see the invasion aborted as few expected that anything good would come from the venture and much confusion among the army. The war probably wouldn't escalate as everyone fights for pwoer and Britaina nd france sit there happily watching the Nazi's fight among themselves. After the fall, you are seeing mass confusion within the Reich as there is a power struggle bewteen Gobbels, Himmler and Goering. This may affect the war effort and you may even see the war ending very soon afterwards. In almost every scenario, you would probably see chaoas. The Recih was very much factionalized, and only Hitler held everything together. Without him, things get very complicated.

Kaput Hitler? Kaput Nazis.

Alex, that is pretty much what I think, like you I am not at all sure if Hitler dies even when Germany at least seems to be winning the war that Nazi rule can continue. And if he dies before the seizure of power in 1933 I really doubt if Nazi rule can even happen.
